PLA Aesthetic covers a range of variants designed for maximum visual impact, such as Silk, Rainbow, Dual-color, and Glitter/Galaxy filaments. They are designed to move beyond the “plastic feel” and create stunning finished products right off the build plate.
Why choose PLA Aesthetic?
- Stunning Visuals: Silk PLA offers a smooth, satin-like metallic sheen, while Rainbow PLA provides beautiful color gradients on larger models.
- No Post-Processing Required: Prints have a very high level of finish out of the box, perfect for gifts, jewelry models, or art pieces.
- Unique Expression: Glow-in-the-dark, dual-tone, or glitter effects add mystery and uniqueness to your designs.
When NOT to use PLA Aesthetic?
- Significant Layer Weakness: Particularly with Silk PLA, the additives used for the sheen can significantly reduce layer-to-layer strength, making parts prone to splitting along the print lines.
- Precision Sensitivity: Some effect materials contain particles (like glitter) that may pose a slight risk of clogging very fine nozzles (<0.4mm).
- Support Artifacts: It can be harder to achieve a perfect surface on support contact areas with high-gloss materials, often leaving visible marks.
Best Practices
- Print Temp: 200°C – 225°C (Silk PLA often needs slightly higher temperatures for best gloss)
- Bed Temp: 50°C – 60°C
- Speed Control: Reducing outer wall speeds can significantly improve the surface gloss and consistency of silk materials.
- Storage: Storing in a dry, vacuum-sealed bag is crucial for maintaining gloss and reducing stringing.
