PLA Matte uses a specialized formulation to eliminate the plastic reflection of standard PLA, giving models a premium texture similar to plaster or fine stonework. It is the ideal choice for aesthetic-focused prints and display models.
Why choose PLA Matte?
- Hiding Layer Lines: The diffuse, non-reflective surface is excellent at masking the layer lines inherent to FDM printing, making the parts look more like a single unit.
- Premium Texture: Low-saturation colors combined with a matte finish are perfect for architectural models, home decor, and photography props.
- Post-Processing Ease: The matte surface is easier to paint and sand, making it a favorite for hobbyists.
When NOT to use PLA Matte?
- Lower Layer Adhesion: Due to the additives used for the matte effect, the layer-to-layer bond is typically slightly weaker than standard PLA. Not recommended for stress-bearing functional parts.
- Brittleness: Matte materials are often more brittle than standard PLA; extra care is needed when handling delicate structures.
Best Practices
- Print Temp: 190°C – 220°C (Higher temp can help with layer adhesion)
- Bed Temp: 45°C – 60°C
- Cooling: 100% Part Cooling Fan.
- Storage: PLA Matte is more prone to absorbing moisture, which can lead to increased stringing and reduced surface quality. Keep it dry.
